A Welcome from our Chairperson

"You are the light of the world. A city built on a hilltop cannot be hidden.
No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lampstand where it shines for all in the house.
In the same way your light must shine,... so that, seeing your good works,
they may give praise to your Father in heaven."
-Matthew 5:14-16

Dear Brother or Sister in Christ,

That bible passage from Matthew is what the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops used to open their pastoral plan for ministry to young adults. As times are becoming increasingly complex and difficult for those in the church in their twenties and early thirties it's important for us to stick together as we venture into young adulthood exploring the deeper meaning of life and love.

The time between graduation and discovering our permanent vocation is difficult, full of many questions and deep thought. We begin to find that work is such a major part of our lives that "What do you do for a living?" is a regular part of our vernacular. Some of us may even question what it means to be a "spiritual" person at a time when the world is moving toward an individual conception of faith.

Finding an answer to these questions can be found by answering the call to being a light of the world. The bishops describe us as "Sons and Daughters of the Light" and instruct us that if we are to find the answers to life and love we must join together in ministry and grow together in the Faith.

I pray that as you read my words to you that you consider answering the call of our bishops to come together as young adults and help each other face the life of a Catholic young adult by joining us in our ministry! Many of us have recently graduated college and have just started to adjust to life in the working world, others are coming back to the Church after some time. Whatever your background, if you're Catholic and looking for a group of friends your age in which to enrich your faith - welcome home!

May Jesus' name be praised now and ever and forever,

Jonathan
